Job Description

Position Summary

The responsibilities of the copywriter are to aid in the development of effective advertising campaigns. Junior Copywriters work closely with a copywriter and art director to develop concepts into specific forms of advertising including print ads, storyboards, direct mail, websites, online banners and email, among others.

Major Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Under supervision of the Senior Copywriter or Associate Creative Director, and in collaboration with an Art Director, the Junior Copywriter is responsible for developing campaigns and concepts that are on strategy and aligned with a clients goals.
  • Responsible for assisting in the writing of headlines and body copy for all forms of traditional advertising, direct mail, email, web sites and landing pages, online advertising units, video, animations and other copy needs.
  • Update and maintain copy decks with editorial and client comments
  • Involved in all aspects of final production of creative projects to which he/she is assigned
  • Work in a team environment with other creatives.
  • May have contact with the client in presentations.
  • Interest in new technologies and emerging trends
  • Be attuned to and knowledgeable of societal and cultural trends

Knowledge and Skills Requirements 

Specific knowledge and skills include but are not limited to the following:

  • BA degree or equivalent work experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of the mechanics of writing: punctuation, spelling, structure and organization. Must be grammatically competent and literate
  • Ability to write in multiple styles in accordance with a brand's tone or voice
  • Ability to work in a team environment 
  • Ability to accept constructive internal and/or client comments with regard to concepts and copy
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Good presentation skills
  • Familiarity with interactive/digital technologies and channels
  • Ability to keep organized files and back-up of all jobs
  • Strong portfolio showing a range of styles and relevant experience
