OUR INTERNSHIP PHILOSOPHY
- Our interns
are here to learn and not to provide 'cheap labour'. You will not be
asked to perform menial tasks or run meaningless errands. Your
internship will not be about making coffee or standing by at the
photocopying machine. We treat you with respect.
-
At the same time, we recognise that an intern's main prerogative is to
learn and gain experience. We will not expect you to be responsible for
the delivery of actual results. Rather, we will provide you with a safe
learning environment, where you will be able to experiment and make
mistakes.
- We will not be teaching you
technical skills ('know how') as these ought to be picked up either in
school or in your own time. Instead, we will be teaching you how to
apply your skills in the real world ('know why') and how to assimilate
your theoretical knowledge into real life as a professional. This way,
the concepts from your textbooks and classes will literally come to
life.
- All interns will be assigned a mentor
and will also be given special attention by our senior management
personnel, including our founders. This way, you will be exposed to a
variety of ideas and perspectives and better equipped to deal with life
as a future professional or entrepreneur.
-
Interns will be provided with a generous monthly transport/meal
allowance in cash. There will be no remuneration or salary. This is
because we view internships as learning placements and not low-cost
labour.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
-
You are currently undertaking an undergraduate degree and have at least
six months of casual/temp work experience in any industry (though those
with experience in the media/advertising/lifestyle/PR industries will
be at an advantage).
- You are outgoing,
charismatic, confident and have strong people skills. You are able to
build rapport with people you meet for the first time.
-
You are independent, motivated and adventurous. You want to work for a
start-up because it's fun and exciting, but also because you know you
will be able to make lots of money once the business takes off.
-
You loathe bureaucrats, pen-pushers and bullshitters. Though you are an
excellent conversationist, you have an over-arching desire to get epic
shit done.
- You think outside the box and find
innovative ways to solve problems instead of just ducking them and
referring them to someone in "authority".
- You
are a great team player, have a fun personality, and have interests
that others might find unusual. You are proud of being unconventional,
and you appreciate others for who they are. You do not judge others
using conventional yardsticks. And above all you are someone who is
regarded as having integrity, and would never do anything to sabotage
another person.
- You are well-travelled and
have at least one friend from a different country. You are fascinated by
other cultures and schools of thought. You read books. You have
book-marked Wikipedia. You are intellectually curious and believe that
you can learn something new every day.
- You
are interested in entrepreneurship. You believe that entrepreneurship
can change the world we live in. You have either attempted a start-up of
your own, or have worked in a start-up at some stage in your career --
because it's SO much cooler than being a banker or an accountant! By the
way, it's totally okay with us if your start-up failed -- tell us the
reasons why it failed and how the lessons you learnt have made you
stronger!
- If data analysis is your forte and excel is your mind's playground, be sure to highlight that.
