About Shark Savers:
Shark Savers is a volunteer-driven non-profit marine conservation group dedicated to saving sharks through building awareness, education, and action.
About 'FINished with Fins':
“I’m FINished with FINs” is a homegrown Singaporean grassroots initiated campaign launched by a group of local volunteers in 2012. In just 2 years, it has expanded to and is currently active in Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, China and the Maldives. Working with international campaign partners (WWF, Earth Hour, National Geographic Channel and NatGeo WILD), it is now the world’s largest celebrity-led mass media shark and marine conservation campaign, with more than 700+ of the world’s most influential personalities worldwide championing the cause.
The campaign has one objective – to request for the Chinese population to abstain from eating shark fin soup, save sharks, and in turn protecting the health of the oceans. The popularity of shark fin soup has led to global shark populations falling by up to 98 per cent in the last 15 years, with many species hunted close to extinction. Sharks play a key role in the marine ecosystem as the top predator, keeping other species in check. Reducing their numbers drastically can throw the marine environment out of balance.
A signature initiative of the campaign is to invite celebrities to take black & white portraits to declare that they're "FINished with (eating shark) fins". IFWF also campaigns for companies to take the corporate pledge, banning shark fin soup at all corporate functions and refusing to engage in any business or trade that directly promotes the use of shark products. Past corporate pledgers include: COURTS, SingTel, AirAsia, LUSH, Standard Chartered Bank, DHL Global Mail, Hilton Worldwide, Starwood Hotel Group, IndoChine Group, Resorts World Sentosa
