Engineering Good (formerly known as Engineers Without Borders Asia) is a Singapore-based non-profit organisation that empowers disadvantaged communities by improving their quality of life through sustainable engineering solutions. Working in partnership with community-based organisations locally and in the region, we provide opportunities for engineers to contribute their expertise to address community needs through skilled volunteerism.
In Singapore, our focus is on assistive technology (AT) for persons with disabilities. We partner with volunteer welfare organisations such as special schools and disability centres, and work with our partners and end-beneficiaries to develop AT that is more affordable and better customised to their needs.
Overseas, we focus on appropriate technology for the base of the pyramid (BoP). Typically used in developing country contexts, appropriate technology refers to low-cost, small-scale systems to meet basic needs such as water, energy, farming, and shelter. We partner with local organisations already working in appropriate technology on the ground, and work with them to strengthen their capacity.

We are recruiting an intern to support in event management of our Go Baby Go! event in early December!
Event overview:
Children with cerebral palsy and other disabilities face multiple challenges in playing with commercial off-the-shelf toys as well as mobility issues. The Go Baby Go! project converts battery-powered ride-on cars into rehabilitative devices for children with special needs, allowing them to explore the world around them on their own and participate in interactive play with other children, helping in their learning and development.
From August to November 2016, volunteers from Engineering Good, institutions of higher learning, and our sponsor organisations will work together on adapting about 15 cars for children with cerebral palsy and other disabilities. Each car will be modified to suit each child's specific needs – moving the accelerator pedal to the steering wheel, for example, if the child can only use his hands, or adding a head brace for neck support.
In early December 2016, in commemoration of International Day of Persons with Disabilities and International Volunteer Day, the completed toys will be revealed and presented to the beneficiaries in a carnival at Enabling Village. Children from our partner charities and beneficiary organisations will be invited to play with the cars in an interactive circuit, while their parents and caregivers will be invited to take part in workshops to learn how to modify their own toys for their children. Other carnival activities will also be organised to engage participants and the public on this fun family day.
