The Singapore Committee for UN Women Singapore is a non-profit organisation working towards women's empowerment and gender equality in developing countries.

Established in 1999, the organisation functions as a National Committee of the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM), headquartered in New York.

We support programs that provide women and children with access to education, healthcare, economic independence and a life free of violence and abuse.

OUR MISSION

We support the general mission of UN Women in developing nations throughout the region by providing funds and support for:

Economic Empowerment Programmes - to enable women to develop business and entrepreneurial skills to access local, national and global markets. Projects also assist women in gaining access to finance, technology and information.

Governance and Leadership Programmes – to give women a voice and visibility by encouraging their leadership in decision making processes that shape their lives.

Conflict Area Programmes - to provide services for women violated during war and armed conflict. These projects also promote the role of women in peace building.

UN Women Trust Fund - which helps to support actions to eliminate violence against women, including projects in the areas of: HIV/AIDS, female infanticide, trafficking, forced prostitution, domestic violence, sexual abuse and rape. In order to achieve this mission, we undertake a wide range of fundraising activities, membership drives and public education programs and events.

Project Development and Public Education - Internship
Job Description

Reports to: Program Managers, Public Education and Project Development, and General Manager

Job Description:
Responsibilities of this internship will include assisting program managers on a variety of projects for our Public Education and Project Development teams. A portion of the internship will focus on advocacy and awareness campaigns for various Public Education activities including research, co-ordinating large scale logistics for conferences and events, and developing projects to engage the community on a range of topics. As part of the Project Development team, this internship will allow you to work on a variety of local and regional campaigns, including Project Inspire, our award-winning global social enterprise competition. 

What are the key responsibilities of this role?
Under the guidance of a programme manager, she or he will be working in a fast-pace environment and be responsible (but not limited) to:

·  Develop, plan and coordinate large scale events, conferences, and fundraisers in partnership with various local and regional stakeholders

·  Work on dedicated events to engage the public, especially the youth, and help coordinate events/fundraisers related to UN Women's mandate

·  Source and develop awareness building opportunities in schools

·  Work with program manager to source sponsors to support existing and new initiatives long term

·  Screening program proposals, conducting research, and co-ordinating logistics for Project Inspire

·  Promote events and maintain brand image through social media

What we are looking for:

·  Individuals who are passionate and knowledgeable about women's rights

·  Individuals comfortable with a fast paced environment, multi-tasking and organizing events

·  Detail oriented and comfortable working independently 

·  Excellent verbal and written communication skills

·  Ability to think out of the box and constantly find new ways to build on current campaigns and work to develop new projects

·  Ability to practically weigh and justify your project's returns to the organization and to sponsors

·  Team player and is passionate about getting things done

·  Fluent in speaking and writing in English.

·  Familiar with Microsoft Office and popular social media platforms. Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop and CS InDesign would be an added advantage but not essential

 

Academic requirement:
A Diploma or Bachelors Degree in Social Sciences, Communications, Journalism, or Marketing. Should you not hold the academic qualifications mentioned above, applicants are still encouraged to apply, only if you have extensive experience in the areas above.

Duration: Preferred Start Date: Immediate. Preferred Minimum internship duration is 6 months to 1 year.

Eligibility : Only Singaporeans and Singapore PRs need apply. A monthly stipend of S$500 will be provided to the successful candidate. Please note that housing, visas, travel, and insurance will not be covered.
