Job Description
Web Technology and Digital Marketing Specialist

In 2015 JDMIS is placing more attention on its web, mobile, new media and community marketing channels. These include plans to upgrade its own website to the latest version of the Joomla CMS, maintain and improve the site’s already substantial SEO, and find efficient and fun ways to use YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Google Plus and mobile apps to engage with students and potential students.

This is a flexible position and is intended for a very versatile person… You will be working directly with JDMIS management and our ideal candidate will be a high-functioning multi-tasker:

  • You should be sharp, articulate and efficient:
We are eager to try new things but they must cave a clear business case. If you can’t defend your arguments professionally, this won’t be much fun for you. There is plenty of room for learning from mistakes, and expectations are only that you do your best, but… there no tolerance for repeating the same mistakes, so we need you to learn and adapt.
  • You should have excellent command of English and be able to write in an engaging manner:
You will be working on customer-facing content. Collaborating on and perhaps even creating some of it! This can’t happen unless you are a good writer and enjoy crafting engaging content.
  • You should be ready to read up and talk to people about SEO and digital marketing strategy:
We have some in-house expertise, but will rely on you to help identify our best course of action when it comes to adwords campaigns, inbound marketing strategies, anchor text changes, meta tag content and more. We are also happy to spend on premium products or services - but we should do our homework to ensure we are maximizing the value we receive.
  • You should be technically competent and willing to dig to find solutions:
Our entire setup is a mashup of Open Source tools (like Joomla) and DIY code in HTML/Javascript, PHP, .Net, VBA, and more… We do not need or want an expert programmer, but need someone who is not put off by a bit of code and can read up on ways to make things work. Think ‘hacker’ rather than programmer If you have some experience with Joomla, looking at HTML, scripting or programming languages you will be at home.
  • Feel comfortable interacting with a diverse group of people:
Our team and our clients come from many different parts of the world and many walks of life. You have to enjoy meeting and interactive with different people to understand what our students want and how best to work with the team.
  • Have hands-on or project management skills in 2d graphics and video production/editing:
You don’t need to be a graphic artist or film-maker – but if you know your way around photoshop, premiere or after effects, you can contribute with more – from mockups and rough cuts to finished collaterals. Alternatively, be ready to farm out and manage this work to freelancers.

Missing some of the technical requirements? Don’t have any experience with SEO or Video or PPC? Willing to spend some time learning about them? Then no problem! Meeting all of our requirements is a pretty tall order! We do not expect to find anyone with all the skills we need out-of-the-box, but we need a dynamic individual that can adapt, learn and intelligently apply themselves in new areas. This should be a challenge that you will be proud of achieving, not a 9-5 slog for a few bucks!

The position will require the review of existing activities and systems and proposal of changes/upgrades/new channels to try. Following management approval, suggested changes should be planned and executed in a manner that will allow systematic maintenance upon completion of the project and frequent measurement of each channel's success.

This is an excellent opportunity for anyone with a strong interest in marketing, technology and new media. The position is ideal for candidates with an interest in the jewellery/luxury goods industries or for those interested in building/using a broad range of skills related to internet marketing.

The school operates 7 days a week and you should expect challenging work and schedules; timing can be flexible but we anticipate standard 44 hour work weeks divided over 5/6 days, occasionally on weekends if events/plans require it.

We are looking for a relatively junior person who can use this project to shine and possibly continue growing with the school after the project is complete. Monthly remuneration is limited but there will be significant milestone/performance bonuses and even opportunity for alternate streams of income for versatile, motivated candidates.

If you are in doubt that this is a good project for you but are just that awesome and having a multidisciplinary challenge appeals to you, lets talk anyway. Maybe we can find a way to work together.
